National Nutrition Month is here!! In my opinion, every month should be focused on nutrition because healthy eating and living is part of your daily life! BUT, since us nutritionists and dietitians have a dedicated month that we are arguably allowed to spew nutrition information at our family, friends and random strangers on the streets with no retribution, I’m not complaining. So, what is National Nutrition Month? According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, it is an annual nutrition education and information campaign to promote the importance of making smart consumer food choices and the development of healthy eating and physical activity habits.
It’s basically what I’ve been telling you since Day 1- eat right, exercise, live a healthy lifestyle. Easier said than done, right? The theme this year is entitled, “Bite Into a Healthy Lifestyle.” Aside from the clever pun, the Academy wants to focus on the following points regarding our diet, as highlighted by registered dietitian nutritionist Ximena Jimenez:
In addition to eating clean, adults should also be aiming to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day to stay healthy. I suggest choosing something you like to do, or else working out will become an unnecessary burden!
